Alfa Acciai has awarded Danieli the contract to supply a state-of-the-art spooler line for its Brescia facility in northern Italy. The new line will replace the existing one and overcome the current weight limit of 3-ton coils, enabling the production of rebar coils ranging from 2.4 to 8 tons.
The new equipment will produce high-quality, torsion-free rebar in compact coils weighing up to 8 tons, with diameters ranging from 8 to 16 mm. Future upgrades may extend this to 18 and 20 mm. The bar spooling system is well-suited to endless rolling processes, such as casting-rolling or billet-welding, improving productivity, yield, and process stability.
This new spooler line builds on Alfa Acciai’s history as the first steelmaker to produce spooled bars in endless mode, a feat achieved in 2007 with Danieli’s billet welding and spooling technology. The line uses Danieli’s K-Spool technology, ensuring continuous, torsion-free winding of spooled bars up to 8 tons, based on research and development across 42 installations globally. The hot start-up for the new spooler line is planned for early 2026.
