Salzgitter Mannesmann International GmbH (SMID) and Mannesmann Grossrohr GmbH (MGR) have signed a major agreement with Munich-based CNT Bau, a subsidiary of Portugal’s Casais Group, for the supply of spiral-welded large-diameter pipes and fittings for the Quilonga Grande water supply project in Angola.
The project aims to improve the drinking water supply for Luanda, Angola’s capital, addressing urgent needs and ensuring a sustainable water supply for the city’s growing population.
The pipes, with diameters ranging from 508 mm to 1,626 mm, will be manufactured in Salzgitter and Hamm, securing capacity utilization for Mannesmann Grossrohr until mid-2026. The pipes will be coated with a special epoxy layer inside and a three-layer polyethylene coating outside to ensure durability for the drinking water system. Salzgitter Mannesmann International will handle logistics, from transport to Luanda’s harbor, and manage procurement of any additional pipe bends and accessories needed.
