Nucor-JFE Steel JV to boost output with new galvanizing line at CSI

Nucor Corporation, the largest steel producer in the U.S., has awarded Fives a contract to install a new continuous galvanizing line at California Steel Industries (CSI) in Fontana, California. CSI is a joint venture between Nucor and JFE Steel.

The investment aims to meet rising demand for high-quality, value-added steel products, particularly in the construction sector in the Western United States.

Nucor became the majority owner of CSI in 2021, acquiring a 50pct stake from Vale S.A. and an additional 1pct from JFE Steel. CSI is a flat-rolled steel reroller with an annual production capacity of over two mln tons. Its product portfolio includes hot rolled, pickled and oiled, cold rolled, galvanized steel, and ERW pipe. The company serves key sectors such as construction, energy, and service centers.
