AM/NS India commissions new air separation unit at Hazira steel plant

ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India), in partnership with INOX Air Products (INOXAP), has commissioned a state-of-the-art Air Separation Unit (ASU) with a capacity of 1,000 tons per day at its integrated steel plant in Hazira, Gujarat.

The new ASU will supply gaseous oxygen, nitrogen, and argon directly to AM/NS India under a long-term onsite agreement, enhancing the plant’s operational efficiency and sustainability efforts. It will also increase the availability of liquid gases for other industries across western India.

This milestone supports the growth of India’s industrial gas infrastructure and strengthens large-scale steel production capabilities.

INOXAP is India’s largest producer of industrial and medical gases, offering a wide range of gases, equipment, and services.

AM/NS India, a joint venture between ArcelorMittal and Nippon Steel, was established in 2019 following the acquisition of Essar Steel. The company currently produces 9.6 mln tons of flat steel annually, with plans to expand to 15.6 mln tons by FY26 and 40 mln tons by 2035.
