Van Merksteijn and Sudwest complete merger to form Reinforcing Steel Europe

Van Merksteijn Steel Group has completed its merger with Sudwest Beteiligungen, officially launching Reinforcing Steel Europe B.V. (RSE), the company announced. The new entity is headquartered in Almelo, the Netherlands.

“This strategic alliance strengthens our position as a leading European producer and processor of reinforcing steel,” the company said, noting that the merger enables the adoption of best practices across sites, improves efficiency, and fosters innovation.

The merger allows the Sudwest Group to optimize operations at its two steel and wire rod plants, Badische Stahlwerke in Kehl and Moselstahlwerk in Trier. Van Merksteijn benefits from a stable supply of sustainable wire rod, produced using eco-friendly electric arc furnaces, supporting its environmental goals.

Reinforcing Steel Europe (RSE) is now one of the continent’s leading reinforcing steel groups, supplying and processing steel for the European construction industry. Its operations include Badische Stahlwerke (BSW), Moselstahlwerk (MSW), Baustahlgewebe, Neckardraht, and BVG in Germany; Van Merksteijn Steel in the Netherlands; Intersig in Belgium and France; and VMI Atlantic in France.
