JSW KOKS launches new coking battery at Przyjazn plant

JSW KOKS, a subsidiary of Jastrzebska Spolka Weglowa SA (JSW SA), has inaugurated coking battery no. 4 at the Przyjazn coke plant in Dabrowa Gornicza, Poland.

The new battery will boost the plant’s annual coke production capacity by approximately 610,000 tons and establish new benchmarks for technological advancement, environmental compliance, and efficiency in Europe. It features a redesigned ceramic mass for more energy-efficient and state-of-the-art gas removal systems that meet strict EU environmental and BAT (Best Available Techniques) standards.

Notable innovations include a 1,200-ton charge machine and a unique integration of stamped charge technology with dry coke cooling, used for the first time in Poland. This configuration enables high-quality coke production using a more cost-effective raw material base.

The Przyjazn plant, launched in 1987, is the largest of JSW KOKS’s three coke plants and currently operates four coking batteries. The decision to rebuild and modernize battery no. 4 with stamped charge technology was made in 2021.

Across its three plants, JSW KOKS operates seven batteries, producing over 3 mln tons of coke in 2024 using more than 5 mln tons of coking coal from JSW SA mines.
