Blastr’s green steel project advances as Inkoo approves zoning plan

Blastr has reached a key milestone in its Inkoo project as the local municipal council approved the Joddbole V zoning plan, enabling the construction of a low-emission steel mill and hydrogen production plant in the Joddbole industrial area of Finland.

Alongside the approval, Blastr, the Municipality of Inkoo, and local landowners, including Fortum, Inkoo Shipping, Rudus, and the National Emergency Supply Agency, signed a land use agreement outlining cost-sharing for municipal infrastructure. Blastr will contribute over EUR 6.5 mln (USD 7.23 mln) of the EUR 10.4 mln (USD 11.5 mln) total, supporting utilities, traffic improvements, and water management.

The zoning plan also allows for additional industrial activities that can utilize operational by-products from Blastr’s future operations. The project now enters the permitting phase, where Blastr will apply for environmental, water, and construction permits.

Blastr aims to decarbonize steel production by leveraging Nordic resources and circular economy principles to produce 2.5 mln tons of ultra-low CO2 steel annually. Blastr Green Steel is part of Vanir Green Industries.
