SMS group has signed an agreement to acquire key technologies from Metso Corporation to enhance its sustainable metals production portfolio.
Metso, a provider of technology and services in aggregates, minerals processing, and metals refining, will transfer technologies related to sintering, traveling grate pelletizing, and fluidized bed processes to SMS. These additions will support SMS’s green steel strategy and expand its service offering.
The transaction, expected to close in Q1 2026 pending regulatory approvals, also includes ongoing business operations and a growing service segment tied to the acquired technologies.
Around 180 Metso employees, mainly in Germany, India, and China, are set to join SMS group following the deal’s completion.
