Salzgitter Group and its subsidiary Ilsenburger Grobblech GmbH have received official approval from Germany’s Military Technical Center 91 (WTD 91) for the use of SECURE 500 steel in military applications.
The approval, issued under Technical Delivery Conditions TL 2350-0000, covers steel thicknesses ranging from 6 to 16 mm, suitable for use in armored vehicles and protective systems. The steel underwent rigorous testing to assess weldability, ballistic resistance, and blast performance.
Salzgitter highlighted that steel hardness plays a key role in ballistic protection, greater hardness enhances resistance to ballistic threats. The approval confirms the steel’s quality and Salzgitter’s capabilities as a reliable partner for high-performance defense applications.
The company is also advancing approval processes for additional SECURE-series grades and aims to offer the full product family for military use following final assessments by the German Armed Forces.
