    Steel exports up 10pct in Jan-Aug 2025 YoY

    China exported 77.49 mln tons of steel in the first eight months of 2025, up 10pct YoY, according to the General Administration of Customs.

    In August, exports fell 3.26pct month-on-month to 9.51 mln tons but were nearly flat compared to last year.

    On the import side, finished steel shipments into China declined 12pct YoY to 3.97 mln tons over January-August. Imports in August reached 500,000 tons, up 10.6pct from July but down 1.8pct YoY.

    Iron ore imports rose 3.8pct YoY in August to 105.22 mln tons, slightly higher than July. However, total imports for January-August slipped 1.6pct YoY to 801.6 mln tons.
