Asas Steel regains CARES certification with strict compliance terms

Asas Steel FZC has been reinstated to the CARES Steel for the Reinforcement of Concrete (SRC) Scheme after auditors completed a full reassessment of its operations. The UAE-based rebar producer was suspended earlier this month when unannounced spot checks uncovered serious breaches.

The company’s reinstatement comes with stringent conditions. Quarantined materials identified during the initial investigation cannot be moved without CARES’ approval, while dispatch information will be subject to ongoing audit activity. Fortnightly audits will initially apply, followed by quarterly reviews over the next 12 months, alongside frequent unannounced inspections.

CARES said its decision reflected both the company’s acknowledgment of the earlier breaches and its readiness to comply with the SRC Scheme. Chief Executive Officer Lee Brankley noted the impact of suspensions on companies but stressed that compliance remains essential.

The initial suspension followed anomalies detected through CARES’ digital monitoring tools and further investigations via its Upstream Cloud platform. CARES warned that certification could be withdrawn again if any future major infringements occur.

Asas Steel is a UAE-based rebar producer with a rolling mill located in the Hamriyah Free Zone, Sharjah.
