PWP signs deal with Masdar-led consortium to develop solar and battery storage project

Nama Power and Water Procurement (PWP) has signed an agreement with a consortium led by Abu Dhabi’s Masdar, alongside Al Khadra Partners, Korea Midland Power (KOMIPO), and OQ Alternative Energy (OQAE), to develop the Sultanate’s first utility-scale solar and battery storage project.

The Ibri III independent power project will feature a 500 MW solar PV plant paired with a 100 MWh battery energy storage system.

Covering design, construction, financing, ownership, and operation, the project supports Oman’s Vision 2040 target of generating 30pct of electricity from renewables by 2030. Once operational, Ibri III will supply power to about 33,000 homes and cut carbon emissions by around 505,000 tons annually.
