SAIL’s IISCO Steel Plant (ISP) in Burnpur has awarded its first major contract under the INR 35,000 crore (USD 3.94 bln) integrated steel plant expansion, marking the central government’s largest-ever investment in West Bengal.
A consortium of Metso India Pvt. Ltd., Kolkata, and Outotec, Germany, secured an INR 300 crore (USD 33.8 mln) contract to build a 2.673 mln tons per annum sinter plant complex. The facility will include a 252-square-metre sinter machine, expected to be operational within 40 months.
The ISP expansion, based on the blast furnace-basic oxygen furnace route, will raise crude steel capacity by 4.08 mln tons per annum. The new sinter plant complex (SP-3) will supply about one-third of ISP’s sinter needs, incorporating Emission Optimised Sintering (EOS) technology to cut fuel use and reduce emissions.
Separately, Czech firm Hutni won a contract for the by-product plant under ISP’s coke oven project. The IISCO Steel Plant (ISP), a unit of the Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), produces a range of iron and steel products, including wire rods, rebars, structural steel, and pig iron.
