Jindal Steel has commissioned India’s largest blast furnace at its Angul plant, raising hot metal capacity from 4 mln to 9 mln tons per year and setting the stage to reach 12 mln tons annually.
The newly inaugurated Bhagavati Subhadrika Blast Furnace-II, with a useful volume of 5,499 m2, establishes Angul as the nation’s largest single-location steel facility.
Chairman Naveen Jindal led the ceremonial blow-in, noting that the project strengthens global competitiveness while advancing the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India), a government initiative to promote economic self-sufficiency by boosting local manufacturing, reducing dependence on foreign imports, and strengthening domestic supply chains.
The Angul expansion is central to Jindal Steel’s growth strategy, supported by upcoming projects including a dedicated port at Paradeep, a slurry pipeline, a coal conveyor, a power plant, and new coke oven facilities.
