Hoa Phat Dung Quat Steel, a subsidiary of Hoa Phat Group, has completed a major capacity expansion at its Dung Quat 2 facility in Quang Ngai Province, Vietnam.
Working with SMS group, the company installed and commissioned two 300-ton BOF converters, dry gas cleaning plants, a twin ladle furnace, and duplex RH units ahead of schedule. The project paves the way for Hoa Phat to reach its target of six mln tons of annual steelmaking capacity by 2028, with a focus on high-quality HRC for automotive applications and low-carbon steels.
The new melt shop incorporates advanced technology and automation, including a swiveling sublance for greater BOF precision, RH degassing for higher steel quality, and an ESP dry gas cleaning system that cuts dust emissions to well below 20 mg/Nm3.
SMS’s digital solutions, such as Data Factory and automated BOF controls, further improve efficiency, process stability, and sustainability.
The expansion builds on the companies’ long-standing partnership, which also includes a May 2025 contract for a 700,000-tons per year rail and section mill.
