    Steel imports decline in September

    Vietnam imported 1.14 mln tons of steel in September 2025, down 15.3pct from August, according to data from the General Department of Customs. Over the first nine months of the year, total imports fell 8.8pct YoY to 11.21 mln tons.

    China remained Vietnam’s top steel supplier with 590,968 tons in September, though volumes declined 45.2pct YoY. From January to September, imports from China dropped 22.2pct to 6.47 mln tons. Japan shipped 150,713 tons in September, down 17.2pct YoY, but total exports to Vietnam rose 10.8pct to 1.69 mln tons during the same period.

    Other major suppliers in September included Indonesia (144,399 tons), South Korea (122,794 tons), and Taiwan (77,872 tons). Imports from India plunged 93.9pct to just 1,602 tons in September, with year-to-date shipments down 94.7pct.
