India was a net importer of finished steel in September, with imports totaling 0.65 mln tons, according to provisional government data reported by Reuters.
Imports were down 36.3pct YoY, while exports rose 47.6pct to 0.58 mln tons, the data showed.
India’s finished steel production stood at 13.3 mln tons, up 14.7pct YoY, while consumption rose 9pct to 13.5 mln tons, though it slipped 2.2pct month-on-month.
Crude steel output reached 13.8 mln tons, a 15pct YoY increase, but edged down 1.7pct from August.
