LY Steel has successfully started up a split-type 20-high HZ mill supplied by Primetals Technologies at its facility in Loudi, Henan Province, rolling the first coil of high-quality silicon steel for new energy applications. Primetals provided the engineering, mechanical equipment, and commissioning services for the project.
The new HZ mill enables stable, large-scale production of ultra-thin, high-grade silicon steel, strengthening LY Steel’s position in producing high magnetic induction grain-oriented (GO) and high-grade non-grain-oriented (NGO) silicon steel.
Developed by Primetals Technologies, the HZ mill is an innovative split-housing ZR design that offers several advantages: a large gap opening for easier strip threading and recovery after breakages, flexible roll diameter configurations, and a Double AS-U shape control system for improved stability and productivity. Its design also allows full use of work rolls, enhancing operational flexibility.
LY Steel Electromagnetic Materials, a subsidiary of Liangang Group, specializes in GO and NGO silicon steel. Liangang is a leading producer of specialty steels and a major processing base for high-end, heat-treated medium- and thin-gauge sheets across central and southern China.
