    Sterling Steel boosts efficiency with new drive systems at Illinois plant

    Sterling Steel Company LLC has modernized its rolling mill in Illinois, with the completion of a major drive system upgrade by Primetals Technologies. The project involved replacing 16 outdated DC drives with new systems, ensuring improved efficiency, reliability, and long-term spare parts availability.

    The upgrade also included the integration of two additional drives to support future coil size expansion. Engineering, delivery, and commissioning were completed on schedule, with the project finalized upon receipt of the final acceptance certificate.

    Sterling Steel, part of Leggett & Platt, produces up to 500,000 tons of wire rod annually. Leggett & Platt is a diversified manufacturer supplying products for furniture, bedding, aerospace, construction, and other sectors.
