Mexican steelmaker Deacero has unveiled plans to build a steel recycling plant in Cajeme, Sonora, representing an estimated investment of USD 6.45 mln. The project aims to generate new jobs and stimulate local economic growth, though it remains subject to final permits and government authorizations.
According to company representatives, the proposed facility will be located near the Miravalle neighborhood along Federal Highway 15. Local officials emphasized Cajeme’s strategic advantages, including available industrial land, a skilled workforce, strong transport connectivity, and proximity to educational institutions.
The project’s operational timeline has not yet been determined, pending completion of administrative and approval procedures.
Deacero is one of North America’s largest steel producers, with an annual capacity of 4.5 mln tons. The company operates an integrated business model encompassing scrap recycling, steelmaking, wire and rebar production, and a network of mills, recycling centers, and distribution hubs across North and Latin America, as well as a commercial presence in Europe.
