India’s Shyam Metalics and Energy Ltd (SMEL) has started operations at its greenfield cold rolling mill in Jamuria, West Bengal, marking a major milestone in the company’s expansion drive. The project was developed under Shyam Metalics Flat Products Pvt Ltd, a wholly owned step-down subsidiary.
The new facility, with an annual capacity of 400,000 tons, will produce pre-painted galvalume (PPGL) and galvanized and galvalume steel (GI/GL) coils.
SMEL expects the mill to reach optimal capacity utilization within 24 months, strengthening its footprint in both domestic and export markets.
Headquartered in Kolkata, Shyam Metalics operates an integrated value chain spanning iron ore pellets, sponge iron, billets, ferro-alloys, and finished steel products, including rebars, wire rods, structural steel, and pre-painted and stainless steel.
