Vale Oman pellet output rises in Q3

Vale’s iron ore pellet production in Oman rose 8.4pct YoY in Q3 2025 to 2.52 mln tons and increased 45pct compared with the previous quarter. However, in the first nine months of 2025, Vale Oman’s output fell 4.2pct YoY to 6.24 mln tons, according to company data.

Globally, Vale’s pellet production dropped nearly 23pct YoY in Q3 2025 to 7.99 mln tons. The company attributed the decline to production adjustments in response to weak market conditions and the temporary maintenance shutdown of its Sao Luis pelletizing plant, which is not expected to resume operations in 2025. For January-September, global pellet output fell almost 17pct YoY to 23 mln tons.

Located at Sohar Port, Vale Oman’s pelletizing plant, inaugurated in 2011 with a USD 2 bln investment, has an annual capacity of 9 mln tons of direct reduction pellets. The facility also includes a stockyard and distribution center capable of handling 40 mln tons per year.
