Tenaris to build new rail spur at Midland service center to boost efficiency

Tenaris has announced the construction of a new 2.3-mile rail spur at its service center in Midland, Texas, directly connecting the yard with Union Pacific Railroad. The project, set to begin in early 2026 and complete later the same year, will allow pipes to be safely unloaded by rail.

The USD 12.5 mln investment is expected to handle nearly one-third of the yard’s volume by rail, improving operational efficiency, reducing costs, and minimizing truck traffic to enhance safety and lower carbon emissions. Since 2016, Tenaris has invested USD 56 mln in the Midland service center, including a USD 16 mln expansion earlier this year to add 45 acres and increase storage capacity by 25,000 tons.

The facility supports Tenaris’s Rig Direct mill-to-well service model, helping oil and gas operators streamline drilling operations. The new rail spur will further enhance cost-effectiveness and efficiency for customers in the region.
