Ferrexpo cuts output temporarily amid energy supply disruption

Ferrexpo has announced that production and exports have been temporarily interrupted after missile strikes on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure early on 8 November disrupted power supply to its operations.

Power to the city of Horishni Plavni was cut following the attacks, forcing the suspension of activities at Ferrexpo Poltava Mining (FPM) and Ferrexpo Yeristovo Mining (FYM), the company said in a statement.

The group noted that it had prepared for such scenarios by building stocks of semi-finished and finished iron ore products both on-site and at external locations to limit disruption to production flows and export commitments. Over the weekend, partial power was restored to FPM and FYM, allowing some sections of the processing plant to resume operations. Work is ongoing to fully restore electricity and production capacity.

Ferrexpo, headquartered in Switzerland with assets in Ukraine, produces high-grade iron ore products for the global steel industry. Before Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022, the company was the world’s third-largest exporter of iron ore pellets.
