The Salzgitter Group and its subsidiary Ilsenburger Grobblech GmbH have received expanded approval for their SECURE 500 steel grade from Germany’s Bundeswehr Technical Center (WTD 91) under the TL 2350-0000 technical delivery standard. SECURE 500 is now certified for military use in thicknesses from 6 to 25 mm, suitable for applications such as armored vehicles and protective systems. The newly approved SECURE 450 grade further increases coverage, enabling Salzgitter to supply over half of the steel required for many military vehicle variants.
With approvals for SECURE 400 and SECURE 600 expected soon, the company anticipates being able to meet nearly all steel needs for these applications with products from its Ilsenburg site. Salzgitter noted that the certifications validate the high quality and reliability of its defense-grade steels and reinforce its position as a trusted partner for advanced military applications.
The company also recently passed an audit to become a preferred A-supplier of SECURE steels for a major system house, with discussions ongoing with other defense contractors and steel samples currently under evaluation.
