ArcelorMittal-China Oriental JV awards contract for silicon steel project in Changzhou

ArcelorMittal Jinxi New Materials (Changzhou) Co., Ltd., a joint venture between ArcelorMittal and China Oriental Group, has awarded a contract to international technology group Andritz to supply key equipment for its silicon steel project in Changzhou, Jiangsu Province.

The scope includes three final annealing coating lines, a reversing cold rolling mill, and twelve inductors. These will form the core of the New Energy Magnetic Material (NEMM) project, which aims to produce high-grade silicon steel for use in new energy vehicle (NEV) motors, as well as other motors, generators, and transformers.

The project supports China’s push toward intelligent and sustainable manufacturing, with locally produced silicon steel expected to help decarbonize the NEV supply chain and enhance the region’s green manufacturing capabilities.
