Boston Metal, a pioneer in steel decarbonization, has successfully commissioned its multi-inert anode Molten Oxide Electrolysis (MOE) industrial cell for green steel production. This milestone validates the performance of MOE’s inert anode, enabling scalable, CO2-free production of pure liquid iron at a commercial level.
Now operational at its Woburn, Massachusetts facility, the industrial cell confirms MOE Steel’s scalability, with a demonstration plant set for deployment in 2026. Boston Metal’s cost-competitive, modular technology eliminates traditional steelmaking steps such as coke production, sintering, pelletizing, and blast furnace reduction, streamlining the process into a single-step conversion of all iron ore grades into high-quality liquid metal.
The company plans to license its customizable steel manufacturing solution to global steelmakers, supporting scalable green steel production while enhancing economic opportunities across the supply chain. Beyond steel, Boston Metal is expanding its MOE platform.
