Canada Nickel Company has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with RWE Supply & Trading GmbH (RWEST) to support the commercialization of low-carbon intermediate stainless and alloy steel products from its Net Zero Metals subsidiary.
The partnership will provide Canada Nickel with access to RWEST’s customer base in Europe and the United States, as well as expertise in carbon trading, the EU’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) and market development. The companies will jointly develop marketing strategies, identify target customers and explore long-term offtake agreements for semi-finished steel, stainless steel and alloy products.
Canada Nickel said the collaboration will strengthen the commercial positioning of products produced using feedstock from its Crawford Nickel Project in Ontario, where the company is developing an integrated low-carbon nickel and steel supply chain.
The companies also plan to cooperate on export credit financing opportunities and aim to finalize a definitive commercial agreement later this year.
RWE Supply & Trading, a wholly owned subsidiary of Germany’s RWE Group, is a global energy and commodity trading company with operations in 14 countries and extensive experience in energy, carbon and metals markets.
Canada Nickel is developing the Crawford Nickel Project in Ontario and plans to produce net-zero carbon nickel, cobalt, iron and intermediate steel products targeting the electric vehicle and stainless steel sectors.
