Iran has suspended exports of steel slabs and flat products until May 30, 2026, according to an official directive issued by the Trade Promotion Organization of Iran (TPO).
The directive mandates an immediate halt to exports of slabs, plates, and a wide range of flat steel products, including hot-rolled, cold-rolled, tin-plated, and color-coated sheets and coils. The restriction covers 66 tariff lines and applies specifically to slab and flat steel products, excluding long steel products.
The move comes amid ongoing disruption to Iran’s steel sector after U.S. and Israeli airstrikes earlier this month targeted key industrial regions linked to major producers such as Mobarakeh Steel and Khuzestan Steel. The strikes are understood to have damaged critical infrastructure, forcing shutdowns and reducing operating rates across several mills.
The sector continues to face logistical bottlenecks and energy supply constraints, further limiting production and export availability. The export suspension is widely seen as a measure to prioritize domestic supply amid constrained output, rather than a routine trade policy adjustment.
