Hydnum Steel to supply green steel to Gonvarri Industries

Hydnum Steel, the first steelmaker to produce green steel in the Iberian Peninsula region, will supply Gonvarri Industries with green steel worth an estimated EUR 1 bln (USD 1.03 bln) over the next seven years. This partnership is a significant step in promoting sustainability and innovation within the industrial sector.

Hydnum Steel is building a cutting-edge green steel plant in Puertollano, which will make it Spain’s leading decarbonized steel producer. With an initial production capacity of 1.5 mln tons per year, the plant is expected to expand to 2.6 mln tons annually in future phases.

The agreement aims to boost the use of green steel across industries like construction, energy, and automotive, ensuring high-quality products that meet stringent environmental standards. This positions Spain as a leader in green steel production in Europe.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) includes collaboration on logistics optimization and the development of low-CO2 transport solutions, reinforcing the commitment to decarbonizing industry through synergy.

Gonvarri Industries, a global leader in metal transformation with 59 factories across 21 countries, serves sectors such as renewable energy, infrastructure, and automotive, bringing more than 65 years of expertise to the partnership. Hydnum Steel plans to break ground on its Puertollano plant in 2025, with an initial capacity of 1.5 mln tons per year.
