Hyundai-Posco Louisiana LLC has signed a long-term agreement with Air Liquide for the supply of oxygen, nitrogen and argon to its new low-carbon steel facility in Louisiana.
To support the project, Air Liquide will invest more than USD 350 mln to install an additional air separation unit (ASU) in St. James Parish and expand pipeline infrastructure along the Mississippi River.
The agreement marks Air Liquide’s first major contract with HPLS in the United States and will support the plant’s low-emission steel production, with gas supply expected to begin in 2028.
The project will also support increased methanol production at the Koch Methanol site, where the ASU will be integrated.
The development is expected to support localized, lower-carbon industrial production in the US while strengthening Air Liquide’s regional footprint.
Hyundai-Posco Louisiana LLC is a US-based joint venture established by Hyundai Steel, Hyundai Motor Group and Posco Holdings to develop an electric arc furnace (EAF) steel plant in Louisiana. The facility is designed with a production capacity of 2.7 mln tons per year. Construction is currently underway, with commercial operations targeted to commence in the first quarter of 2029.
