JSW Steel awards tin plate project contracts to Yogiji Digi

JSW Steel has awarded Yogiji Digi contracts for its 0.2 mln ton per year tin plate expansion project, further advancing the steelmaker’s downstream processing capabilities in India.

Under the contract, Yogiji Digi will undertake the design, engineering, supply, and supervision of erection and commissioning of a six-high reversing mill, a twin-stand double cold reduction (DCR) mill, and a coil preparation line.

In addition, the company has secured a separate contract to supply a coil preparation line (CPL) for JSW Steel’s tin plate project at Tarapur in Maharashtra.

JSW Steel operates its primary tin plate manufacturing facility at Tarapur, which has become the company’s key hub for value-added packaging steel products. After establishing an initial tin plate production capacity of 250,000 tons per annum, the company launched a 0.2 mln tons per annum expansion project aimed at significantly increasing output.

The expansion is expected to raise JSW Steel’s total tin plate production capacity to around 600,000 tons per annum, strengthening its position in the domestic packaging steel market and enhancing its ability to compete with established producers, including Tata Steel’s Tinplate Company of India.

Yogiji Digi is a leading Indian engineering and equipment manufacturing company supplying heavy machinery and turnkey solutions for the flat steel processing industry.

JSW Steel’s consolidated crude steel capacity stands at 35.9 mln tons per year, including 1.5 mln tons in the US. The company plans to increase its domestic capacity to 50 mln tons per year and total consolidated capacity to 51.5 mln tons per year by FY2030-31.
