JSW Steel’s crude steel production rises 15pct YoY in May

India’s JSW Steel reported consolidated crude steel production of 2.293 mln tons in May 2026, reflecting a 15pct increase compared to 1.996 mln tons produced during the same month last year.

The company’s Indian operations produced 2.198 mln tons of crude steel during the month, up 15pct YoY from 1.917 mln tons recorded in May 2025. Meanwhile, JSW Steel USA’s Ohio facility produced 95,000 tons, representing a 20pct increase compared to 79,000 tons in the corresponding period of the previous year.

JSW Steel attributed the higher production levels primarily to the full operation of its Dolvi plant, where one blast furnace had undergone planned maintenance during May 2025, as well as the successful ramp-up of operations at JVML.

The company noted that Blast Furnace 3 (BF3) at its Vijayanagar works remains under shutdown as part of an ongoing capacity expansion project. The furnace is expected to resume operations during the second half of June 2026.

Despite the temporary shutdown of BF3, capacity utilization at the company’s Indian operations remained robust at approximately 98pct excluding BF3 capacity. Including the idled furnace, overall utilization stood at around 87pct during the month.

JSW Steel’s consolidated crude steel capacity stands at 35.9 mln tons per year, including 1.5 mln tons in the US. The company plans to increase its domestic capacity to 50 mln tons per year and total consolidated capacity to 51.5 mln tons per year by FY2030-31.
