JSW Vijayanagar Metallics Limited (JVML) has awarded John Cockerill a contract to supply two annealing and coating lines (ACL) and one annealing and pickling line (APL) for its cold-rolled non-oriented (CRNO) electrical steel project at Vijayanagar, Karnataka, India.
The project, with a planned production capacity of approximately 600,000 tons per year, is scheduled for completion in 2028 and marks John Cockerill’s first electrical steel processing project in India.
The scope of work includes design, engineering, equipment supply, supervision of erection and commissioning, and operator training. The project will be executed by John Cockerill in cooperation with Fives Stein.
The APL will process hot-rolled non-oriented electrical steel with silicon content of up to 4pct, while the two ACLs will handle cold-rolled non-oriented electrical steel and provide the final annealing and coating processes required to achieve the desired magnetic and insulation properties.
According to John Cockerill, the new facilities will support JVML’s electrical steel expansion strategy and help meet growing demand from sectors such as electric vehicles, renewable energy, industrial motors, power transmission, and energy-efficient appliances.
JVML is a wholly owned subsidiary of JSW Steel, operating an integrated steel complex with a production capacity of 5 million tons per annum. The facility comprises a sinter plant, blast furnace, steel melt shop, and hot strip mill.
