MENA steelmakers improve global standing in 2025

Steelmakers from the MENA region including Turkey continued to strengthen their presence among the world’s largest producers in 2025, with seven regional companies featuring in the latest global rankings. The list included three producers from Turkey, three from the Middle East and one from North Africa, reflecting the region’s growing role in the global steel industry.

Turkey accounted for the largest number of ranked producers in the region, led by Tosyali Holding, with crude steel output of 12.11 mln tons and a global ranking of 32nd. The company also recorded one of the strongest growth rates among major steelmakers, increasing production from 9.12 mln tons in 2024. Erdemir Group ranked 52nd globally with output of 8.09 mln tons, while Habas produced 3.88 mln tons to secure 72nd place worldwide.

In the Middle East, Iran’s Mobarakeh Steel remained the region’s largest producer outside Turkey, producing 10.29 mln tons and ranking 43rd globally. Saudi Iron and Steel Company (Hadeed) followed with 6.12 mln tons, placing 60th in the global rankings. UAE-based EMSTEEL recorded one of the strongest improvements in the region, increasing production to 3.40 mln tons from 2.84 mln tons in 2024 and climbing to 75th place globally from 105th a year earlier.

In North Africa, Egypt’s Ezz Steel remained the region’s leading producer with output of 6.46 mln tons, securing 59th place in the global rankings compared with 62nd place in the previous year.

Globally, China’s Baowu Group retained its position as the world’s largest steel producer with output of 124.76 mln tons in 2025, followed by ArcelorMittal with 63.43 mln tons and Japan’s Nippon Steel Corporation with 57.78 mln tons. China’s Ansteel Group and HBIS Group completed the top five producers worldwide.

Indian steelmakers also maintained a strong presence in the global rankings. JSW Steel ranked 11th globally with crude steel output of 27.79 mln tons, followed by Tata Steel at 18th with 21.70 mln tons. Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) secured 24th place with 19.01 mln tons, while Jindal Steel & Power (JSP) ranked 44th with 10.08 mln tons. AM/NS India produced 9.65 mln tons during the year, although its output is included within ArcelorMittal’s consolidated global production figures.
