SSAB has signed an agreement with Polmotors, a leading tier 1 automotive supplier, for the future supply of fossil-free steel to be used in structural components and assemblies for the automotive sector.
The collaboration aims to explore the use of fossil-free materials in high-performance automotive applications, combining SSAB’s innovation in low-emission steelmaking with Polmotors’ manufacturing expertise for top OEMs.
SSAB is transforming the steel industry through its decarbonization efforts. The company has introduced SSAB Zero, a steel made from recycled materials using fossil-free energy, and has also produced the world’s first fossil-free steel as a proof-of-concept pilot.
These breakthroughs are part of the HYBRIT initiative, a joint project with iron ore producer LKAB and energy company Vattenfall. HYBRIT replaces traditional coking coal with fossil-free electricity and hydrogen, virtually eliminating CO2 emissions from the steelmaking process.
