Steel Dynamics earns GSCC low-carbon product certification

Steel Dynamics, Inc. announced that all of its steel mills have received product certification from the Global Steel Climate Council (GSCC), affirming alignment with the Paris Agreement’s 1.5 Celsius climate goals.

The GSCC’s Steel Climate Standard offers a technology-neutral framework for certifying steel products, giving customers transparent data to support low-carbon purchasing decisions. It aligns with the International Energy Agency’s Net Zero by 2050 roadmap and measures greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions across Scope 1, Scope 2, and upstream Scope 3, up to the hot rolling stage.

The company’s 2024 GHG emissions intensity data were third-party verified by KERAMIDA and certified by the GSCC.

The GSCC, a non-profit organization, promotes globally consistent, science-based standards to reduce steel emissions and drive progress toward a low-carbon steel industry.

Steel Dynamics is among North America’s largest steel producers and metal recyclers, with operations in the U.S. and Mexico.
