Tenaris commissions solar plants at Italian steel facilities

Tenaris has commissioned two new photovoltaic plants at its Sabbio Bergamasco and Arcore facilities in Italy as part of its strategy to reduce CO2 emissions by 30pct by 2030 compared with 2018 levels.

The two solar plants have a combined installed capacity of 10 MW and represent an investment of approximately EUR 10 mln (USD 11.45 mln). The Sabbio Bergamasco plant will supply all of its electricity to Tenaris’s nearby Dalmine steel mill, while 70-75pct of the power generated at the Arcore facility will be used on-site.

Both plants were connected to Italy’s national electricity grid in June. The Sabbio Bergamasco installation was developed on a repurposed storage area, while the Arcore project was installed on existing rooftops to optimize land use.

The investment forms part of Tenaris’s broader renewable energy strategy, which also includes a solar plant at its Silcotub steel mill in Romania, two wind farms in Argentina and a photovoltaic plant in China.

Tenaris is a global manufacturer of seamless and welded steel pipe products for the energy industry. The company operates an integrated industrial network with manufacturing facilities in North and South America, Europe, Asia and the Middle East, supplying OCTG, line pipe and premium tubular solutions to oil and gas producers worldwide.
