Vallourec has received certification from the Global Steel Climate Council (GSCC) for its science-based decarbonization pathway, confirming that the company’s emissions reduction strategy is aligned with the Paris Agreement and the GSCC Steel Climate Standard.
Following an independent assessment by CARES, Vallourec’s Corporate Average Steel Emissions Intensity (CASEI) was certified at 1.70 tons of CO2e per ton of hot-rolled steel based on its 2021 baseline. The company said it has already reduced this figure to 1.16 tons of CO2e per ton in 2025, ahead of the GSCC’s 2030 threshold of 1.20 tons.
Vallourec said it achieved the greenhouse gas reduction targets under its previous climate roadmap three years ahead of schedule and has adopted a new decarbonization strategy targeting a 30pct reduction in the carbon footprint of its finished tubes and a 25pct reduction in overall Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions by 2030, compared with 2021 levels.
According to the GSCC, Vallourec is its first certified member operating both integrated and electric arc furnace (EAF) steelmaking facilities.
Vallourec is a global producer of premium seamless tubular products for the energy and industrial sectors, operating in more than 20 countries.
