Austria’s Voestalpine Railway Systems has secured framework contracts for the Rail Baltica project, marking the largest single order in the company’s history.
Under the agreements, Voestalpine will supply up to 1,000 high-speed and standard railway turnouts, along with digital monitoring systems, for the Rail Baltica high-speed rail network. Production will take place at the company’s facilities in Lithuania and Latvia, with prototype deliveries scheduled to begin in 2027.
The high-speed turnouts are designed for train speeds of up to 300 km/h and will be equipped with digital diagnostic systems that enable real-time monitoring and predictive maintenance. Each turnout can incorporate up to 40 sensors that collect operational and environmental data, helping operators improve reliability, optimize maintenance and reduce service disruptions.
Rail Baltica is one of Europe’s largest railway infrastructure projects and will create a fully electrified north-south rail corridor linking Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia, with connections to Finland. The project will integrate the Baltic states into the European standard-gauge railway network for the first time since World War II.
Voestalpine said the contract further strengthens its position as a leading global supplier of railway infrastructure systems, including track, turnout, signaling and monitoring technologies.
Voestalpine Railway Systems is a global provider of railway infrastructure solutions. The business operates 70 locations worldwide.
