China’s Zenith Steel Group has signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Contemporary Amperex Technology Limited (CATL) to collaborate on clean energy, green logistics, and resource recycling, aiming to advance a zero-carbon steel industry.
Founded in 2011, CATL is a leading Chinese battery manufacturer specializing in lithium-ion batteries for electric vehicles, energy storage systems, and battery management solutions.
As a major steel producer in China, Zenith Steel operates production bases in Changzhou, Nantong, and Huai’an, supplying the automotive, aerospace, and high-end manufacturing sectors. The company has invested nearly USD 2.75 bln to develop a green manufacturing system, integrating wind, solar, and energy storage while advancing carbon reduction technologies.
According to CATL, the partnership will establish a new collaborative model across the steel, energy, and carbon sectors, driving sustainable development. Both companies plan to launch high-impact demonstration projects to enhance industrial competitiveness and accelerate the shift toward zero-carbon steel.
