Alfa Laval to use Acerinox’s low-carbon stainless steel in heat exchangers

Spanish stainless steel producer Acerinox and industrial equipment manufacturer Alfa Laval have entered into a partnership to promote industrial decarbonization through the use of low-emission stainless steel.

Under the agreement, Alfa Laval will incorporate Acerinox’s EcoACX stainless steel into the production of its gasketed plate heat exchangers, which are widely used across industries including energy, food processing, data centers and building services.

EcoACX is produced using 90pct recycled material and offers a carbon footprint approximately 50pct lower than conventional stainless steel, according to Acerinox. The company said the product maintains the same quality, durability and technical performance standards as traditional stainless steel grades.

By integrating EcoACX into a significant portion of its heat exchanger channel plates, Alfa Laval aims to reduce the upstream carbon footprint of its products while supporting customers’ energy-efficiency and sustainability objectives.

The companies said the collaboration demonstrates how low-emission materials can contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions across industrial supply chains and support the transition toward cleaner manufacturing practices.

Alfa Laval is a global supplier of heat transfer, separation and fluid handling technologies serving a wide range of industrial and energy sectors.

Acerinox is one of the world’s leading stainless steel producers, with manufacturing operations in Europe, the US and South Africa.
