Chinese firm wins EPC contract for wind turbine manufacturing project in Duqm

China Energy Engineering Corporation (CEEC) Shanxi Institute has secured the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract for the Mawarid Wind Turbine Manufacturing Project at the Special Economic Zone at Duqm (SEZAD) in Oman.

Under the contract, CEEC’s Oman subsidiary will oversee the construction of around 90,000 square metres of industrial and supporting facilities, including blade and hub manufacturing workshops, an energy centre, office buildings, utility networks, wastewater treatment facilities, and related infrastructure.

The project is being developed by Mawarid Turbine, a subsidiary of O-Green, with an initial investment estimated at USD 10 mln. It is expected to become Oman’s first wind turbine manufacturing facility.

The development will be implemented in phases. The first phase will focus on the production of wind turbine blades and key components, while the second phase will add manufacturing capacity for wind turbine towers and other renewable energy equipment. Planned annual production capacity is expected to range between 800 MW and 1,000 MW.

Technology for the project will be provided by Shanghai Electric Wind Power under a strategic partnership covering technology licensing, manufacturing systems design, research and development support, and turbine supply for pilot projects.

Upon completion, the facility is expected to support the localization of wind energy manufacturing in Oman and strengthen the country’s renewable energy supply chain, while serving regional markets from Duqm.
