Steel exports double in 2025 as rebar shipments surge

Qatar’s exports of steel products under HS 7207-7229 nearly doubled in 2025, rising 99.5pct YoY to 1.84 mln tons from 920,575 tons in 2024, according to Qatar customs data.

The increase was driven overwhelmingly by rebar exports, which rose 108.9pct YoY to 1.78 mln tons and accounted for around 97pct of Qatar’s steel exports in the HS 7207-7229 range.

Billet exports declined 30.8pct YoY to 28,922 tons. Exports of sections under HS code 7216 increased 29.9pct to 18,744 tons, while steel wire exports under HS code 7217 were broadly stable at 10,206 tons, down 0.7pct.

The UAE was by far Qatar’s largest destination, receiving around 1.38 mln tons of steel products in 2025, up sharply from about 309,000 tons in 2024. Shipments were overwhelmingly composed of rebars, with smaller volumes of sections and semifinished steel.

Indonesia emerged as another significant destination, receiving around 102,000 tons, almost entirely rebars. Qatar also exported around 93,800 tons to Saudi Arabia, mainly rebars, while Lebanon received 76,700 tons, entirely in the form of rebars.

Exports to Malaysia and Bahrain stood at around 43,100 tons and 43,000 tons, respectively, with rebars accounting for the vast majority of shipments.

Qatar also exported 25,600 tons of billets to Pakistan, in addition to 4,500 tons of rebars in 2025.
