SAIL unveils silica reduction plant for utilizing low-grade ore in Chhattisgarh

Union Steel Minister Jyotiraditya M Scindia virtually inaugurated SAIL’s INR 149-crore (USD 18 mln) beneficiation project at Kanker, Chhattisgarh.

The project includes a silica reduction plant at Dalli iron ore mines, enabling SAIL to utilize low-grade ore.

The plant aims to increase the iron content to 62-64pct and reduce silica content to 2-3pct.

SAIL Chairman Amarendu Prakash highlighted the importance of refining small-sized iron ore for effective usage in the blast furnace at Bhilai Steel Plant.

The state-of-the-art equipment will enhance iron ore supply, increase production, and reduce coke consumption and carbon emissions.

State-owned SAIL is one of India’s top three steel producers with an annual capacity of around 20 mln tons.
