Jindal Steel Sohar sets new monthly liquid steel production record

Jindal Steel Sohar, formerly Jindal Shadeed Iron and Steel and part of Jindal Steel Oman, said its 220-ton electric arc furnace (EAF) in Sohar achieved a new monthly production milestone, tapping more than 235,000 tons of liquid steel in a single month.

Based on the latest performance, the company indicated the furnace is operating at a run rate that implies annual cast steel output exceeding 2.5 mln tons, underscoring strong operational efficiency at the Sohar facility.

The EAF was supplied by the Danieli Group and has been upgraded with the Q-MELT adaptive process control system. According to the company, the furnace recorded 96.5pct availability, reflecting stable operations and optimized process control.

Jindal Steel Sohar said the performance highlights the role of advanced technology, operational expertise, and collaboration in achieving consistent, high-productivity steelmaking while supporting sustainable and competitive production standards.

Jindal’s operations in Oman span four business units. Jindal Steel Sohar, formerly Jindal Shadeed Iron and Steel, is the largest privately owned integrated steel producer in the GCC, featuring a 2 mln tons per annum gas-based DRI plant, a 2.4 mln tons per year melt shop with advanced EAF and ladle furnaces, and a 1.4 mln tons per annum rebar mill. The group expanded further in 2023 with the acquisition of Sohar Steel, adding 700,000 tons of long-products capacity.

In addition, Jindal Steel Duqm (Vulcan Green Steel) is developing a 5 mln tons per year green steel complex in the Duqm SEZ, while Jindal Steel Oman is constructing a 6 mln tons per annum pelletizing plant in Sohar to produce high-grade iron ore pellets.
