Scrap import prices firm slightly ahead of year-end holidays

Turkey’s imported scrap prices edged higher this week, with assessments at USD 360-370 per ton CFR, compared with USD 360-365 per ton last week.

Market sources said the higher end of the range reflects a reported US-origin deal, as several Turkish mills finalized fresh deep-sea bookings for January 2026 shipment ahead of the Christmas holiday break. Despite mills attempting to negotiate lower prices, scrap suppliers maintained a firm stance, citing limited availability and higher winter collection costs.

Market participants expect activity to slow into a brief standstill ahead of year-end holidays. Finished steel demand in Turkey remained weak in both domestic and export markets, weighed down by holiday-related inactivity and subdued buying sentiment.

Turkish long steel export offers were unchanged on the week, with rebar at USD 560-565 per ton FOB and wire rod at USD 570-575 per ton FOB.
