Severstal upgrades emission control systems at Cherepovets steel plant

Severstal is strengthening environmental monitoring at its Cherepovets Iron and Steel Works (CherMK) by equipping the site with automatic emission control systems under Russia’s Clean Air federal project.

Two new systems installed at Arc Furnace No. 1 and Converter No. 1 have recently been approved by Rosprirodnadzor, Russia’s primary federal agency for consumer rights protection and public health, bringing the total number of accepted systems at CherMK to six.

Overall, 17 automatic monitoring systems are now installed across key production units to track priority air pollutants and exhaust parameters such as temperature, pressure, and equipment performance, with real-time data transmitted to state authorities, the company said.
