Ekinciler advances low-carbon steel production with solar energy project

Ekinciler Demir Celik is strengthening its low-carbon steel production strategy by sourcing renewable energy through a new solar power project developed with YEO Teknoloji. Under the agreement, a 35.2 MWp solar power plant will be built in Sivrihisar, Eskisehir, to supply electricity for Ekinciler’s iron and steel facilities in İskenderun.

The project, with an investment of around USD 28 mln, will be implemented under YEO Teknoloji’s Energy Service Company (ESCO) model. YEO will be responsible for the engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, as well as the operation and maintenance of the plant, providing Ekinciler with a long-term, cost-efficient and predictable energy supply structure.

Once commissioned, the solar plant is expected to generate about 65 mln kWh of clean electricity annually, covering a significant portion of Ekinciler Demir Celik’s energy requirements. The project will help reduce carbon emissions from steel production and serves as a benchmark for sustainable energy integration in Turkey’s steel industry.

Ekinciler Demir Celik has an annual capacity of 1.25 mln tons of billets and 1 mln tons of construction steel.
