The Royal Commission for Riyadh City (RCRC) has awarded a contract to design and build an 8.4-km extension of the Red Line on the Riyadh Metro, according to an official statement.
The project includes 7.1 km of deep underground tunnels, 1.3 km of elevated tracks, and several new stations. Two stations will be built at King Saud University, serving the medical city, health colleges and the main campus concourse. Three additional stations are planned in Diriyah, including one designed as a future interchange with Line 7.
The contractor was not disclosed. The project is expected to be completed in around six years.
